President’s Message June 2009

Jerry Hansen - IPPA President

Jerry Hansen - IPPA President

We are over half way through with 2009 and what a roller coaster ride so far. I’ve seen many positive signs in our industry that things are going to get better.  IPPA has had record attendance at all of our events this year.  I think that people are willing to make the necessary improvements in their business to stay competitive.  This cycle of improved knowledge helps our entire industry.  I hope every one continues this momenton going into the second half of the year.

I was at a wedding a couple of days ago and in about a 4 hour period of time I had 6 people come up to me and ask me about my camera equipment.  I wish I could say that this was unusual, but unfortunately it’s not.   Read the rest

Preparing for the Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) Exam

You may have noticed the alphabet soup behind the names of some photographers (CPP, M.Photog.,M.Artist, MEI, Cr.Photog.) and wondered how you can get that.  Now is your chance.  Becoming a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) sets you apart from other photographers.  It shows your clients that you are not just another person that picked up a camera and is trying to be a photographer.  It shows you are committed to your photography and to our industry.  You will also find that you will become a better photographer.

On April 20th Glen Ricks and Ted York will be teaching a course on becoming a CPP.   They are also going to be doing a hands-on demonstration of lighting and posing (a skill that is not taught very often.)

You can get more information from this pdf brochure or go directly to PPA.com and register for your spot.

Photographers Wanted: Days of 47

The IPPA was contacted by the Days of 47 with an offer for any of our members.  Here is the content of that letter.  If anyone is interested feel free to contact Dave.

“We need professional photographers for a variety of events associated with this Utah event.  It occurred to me that the IPPA and its members could be of service to us and in so doing the Days of ’47 could offer valuable publicity and exposure both to the Association as well as to the individual photographer covering each event.

So as to not be a burden on any one photographer, I am proposing that a member of IPPA volunteer to be the official photographer for each of the events listed in the calendar posted at:
